The short answer

Qantas Points value by redemption

Usually 1c–2.6c on an economy Classic Reward flight, the most common good use. In business class a point can be worth 2c–7c; as gift cards it's 0.4c–0.5c. A Qantas Point has no fixed cash value: it's worth whatever the thing you redeem it on would otherwise cost you.

Classic Reward flights

Fixed points prices on Qantas and partner airlines, with limited seats. The best value: 1c–2.6c a point in economy and 2c–7c in premium economy and business. Qantas raised Classic Reward prices in August 2025, so older guides overstate what points buy.

Classic Plus flights

Priced off the cash fare, on almost any Qantas-operated seat, so availability is easy. Expect around 1c–1.25c a point: convenient, but well below Classic Reward.

Upgrades

Upgrading a paid fare with points can return more per point than anything else, but you have to buy the fare first, and an upgrade seat has to be available.

Hotels & car hire

About 0.7c a point through Qantas Hotels and car hire.

Points Plus Pay

Using points to cover part of a cash fare returns about 0.5c a point, one of the weakest uses.

Gift cards & Rewards Store

0.4c–0.5c a point. The easiest way to spend points, and the lowest return.

Do the maths

Work out what any redemption is worth

Take the cash price, subtract the taxes and fees you still pay when you use points, and divide by the points needed. A flight costing $400 in cash, or 18,000 points plus $60 in taxes, works out at ($400 − $60) ÷ 18,000 = 1.9c a point. Anything under 1c and you'd do about as well with gift cards.

Where these numbers come from. Points and taxes are Qantas’s own: the Classic Flight Reward table and the taxes, fees and carrier charges Qantas quotes (accurate as at 11 May 2026). Cash fares are the cheapest to typical (median) nonstop Qantas fare for one adult, one way, travelling 2 December 2026, from Google Flights on 26 October 2026. Fares move every day and reward seats are limited, so treat these as examples, not quotes. We re-check them every quarter.
FAQ

Points value questions

How much is one Qantas Point worth?

Between 0.4c and 7c, depending on what you redeem it on: 2c–7c in business class, 1c–2.6c on economy flights, 1c–1.25c on Classic Plus flights, 0.7c on hotels and car hire, 0.5c towards a fare with Points Plus Pay, 0.4c–0.5c as gift cards.

Can you convert Qantas Points to cash?

Not directly: Qantas doesn't pay points out as cash. The closest options are gift cards and Rewards Store products, at 0.4c–0.5c a point, or Points Plus Pay towards a fare at about 0.5c. Flights almost always return more.

Do Qantas Points expire?

Your whole balance expires after 18 consecutive months in which you don't earn or redeem any Qantas Points or earn Status Credits. A single earn or redemption resets the clock.

What's the difference between Classic Reward and Classic Plus?

Classic Reward seats have fixed points prices and limited availability, and return 1c–2.6c a point in economy. Classic Plus prices any Qantas-operated seat off its cash fare, so it's easier to book but worth about 1c–1.25c a point.

Is there a Qantas points calculator?

Yes — the calculator at the top of this page. Put in any balance and it shows what Qantas Points are worth on every redemption we track, ranked best first, rather than one blended number. It reads the same rates as the PointFarm app, so the two can't disagree.

How do I work out what my Qantas Points are worth?

Multiply your balance by the cents-per-point of the thing you would actually redeem on. That last part is what most calculators skip: Qantas Points are worth anywhere from 0.4c to 7c each depending on the redemption, so a single average is misleading. The calculator above runs every route at once.

What's the best way to use Qantas Points?

Premium economy & business return the most, 2c–7c a point, if you can find the seat. Gift cards & Rewards Store are the easiest, at 0.4c–0.5c, and the weakest use.

Where these numbers come from. Only some redemptions have a published rate: Flybuys and Everyday Rewards money off, Flybuys gift cards and Bank for Christmas are all 2,000 points = $10. Both airline transfers are 2:1, per each program's own help pages. Everything else — Flybuys Rewards Store products, and anything spent through Qantas or Velocity — has no fixed rate, so those ranges come from independent 2026 valuations. What you actually get depends on the item or seat you pick, and programs can change their pricing at any time. Rates checked 22 October 2026.
